Someday (Original Mix)
Around one minute in we start to get a first glimpse of the lead melody, soon followed by a deep buzzing bass and tight slices of percussion. Sometimes less is more in terms of vocals and ‘Someday’ is testament to that. A choral effect, a few chops and a delicate one-word vocal is all this track needs to soar. Strangely, the vocal never seems repetitive. After the break, the track really gets its groove on and actually reminds me of something Andy Moor might produce in terms of the bright sounding synth and big, chunky bass.

Someday (First State Remix)
Turning his hand to remix duties is label boss Sander van Dien, otherwise known as First State. From the off we’re treated to a glitched vocal (perhaps FS is trying out the new Stutter Edit vst doing the rounds at the minute?) and a nice rolling bass kick. This time around, the breakdown is a lot less clear cut, though the lead melody is plucked out along with a sidechained, sweeping synth. The best description for this remix? It’s definitely a proglifter. Come on, it’s a First State remix, were you expecting anything other than brilliance?
