It’s been a good 12 months since Irish rising star Greg Downey last blew us away with his seminal ‘Stadium / Alpha’ EP on Vandit records, and now he returns once again to the ever faithful Vandit Digital imprint to deliver his latest track entitled ‘Global Code’. ‘Global Code’ being an apt name of course, taken from his growing monthly radio show and podcast.

Greg of course needs very little introduction, having delivered anthems such as ‘Vivid Intent’, ‘K.I.A.’ and of course ‘Stadium’ over the years. He has slowly marked his unique production style on the trance scene.

  • Original Mix
We kick things off with the Original mix with the typical throbbing Downey kick leading into a rolling bass line, building up into the track nicely. Subtle stabs begin to tease the main melody of the track as we head for the first break. Downey opts for the much warmer approach to this track as you will notice from his melodies and softer bass lines throughout. Some effective piano chords begin to shimmer through which takes us into the breakdown. The simple, yet effective melody begins to build us back into the track, building that euphoric momentum. After which, we’re snapped back into the rolling bass and Downey kicks as we head out of the track. A solid start to the release!

  • Club Mix
A similar affair as the Original Mix, but this time Downey adds an extra stab and effects to the build up of the track, leading us into a much the same breakdown as before. The club mix being a shade over 5 minutes is a no-nonsense approach from Downey, but adding those extra dark elements does add something different to it.

  • Scott Project Remix
Taking things down the more tech orientated route, Scott Project delivers his take on the already masterful Global Code. A simple hat driven groove leads us into the track, which after a dark drone effect then adds the kicks and even more hats to the mix. We’re then greeted by what can only be described as a raw and filthy synth, which continues to add more elements to the production. A huge build up of synths, swooshes, drone effects and further production take us into the breakdown. Keeping Downey’s euphoric melody, adding the Scott Project flavour and a warm bassline, the track then builds back up its production and effects to a synth solo which swiftly slams you back into the huge melody once again.
