After establishing himself with the runaway global success of his debut release, the jacking-dubstep of Pinball, Akira Kiteshi AKA Glasgow’s Tommy Forrest charts unexplored territory with his new single Transmission released 7th November on Afterglo Records.

2step influenced Dubstep, electronica, whatever you want to call it, the facts are simple, Transmission instantly commands your full attention. From its opening bleeps and beeps that echo off into space, through to those first pirate beats and almost sickly sweet vocals, the track continues to build with increasingly crunchy drums competing with ever more frenetic synthesizers till the track seems to teeter on the very edge of collapse.

In other hands the end result could be a mess but Forrest has proven himself to be one of the most accomplished new producers around and Transmission is a master class in controlled chaos, which by the final bar leaves you breathless yet desperate for more.

On the flip Givin’ It Up (Dub) provides even sweeter 2-step vibes. Fusing four/four Funky flavours with the low end throb of a computer game bass line and liquid neon synthesizers; this is glitch-fuelled bass music that sounds like the most luxurious 80’s funk-soul jam being ripped apart and rebuilt for some future dancefloor.

With heavyweight names such as Mary Anne Hobbs and N-Type, joining an ever-growing worldwide fan base awaiting each fresh Akira Kiteshi production with baited breath, the release of Transmission cements Forrest’s position as one of the most exciting new artists around. Never one to rest on his laurels, Transmission showcases a talent happy to rip up the rule-book and provides a tantalising glimpse of what is to come in 2012.
